This is a 10-minute audio walkthrough of Poster 466A at TAGC 2020 Online "Planning and developing a state-level science policy fellowship: The Virginia Academy of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (VASEM) Commonwealth of Virginia Engineering and Science (COVES) Policy Fellowship."
Poster Abstract: The Commonwealth of Virginia Engineering and Science (COVES) Policy Fellowship is a new program of the Virginia Academy of Science, Engineering, and Virginia (VASEM) that is designed to provide scientific and technical expertise to policy offices in Virginia's government, scientific industries, and NGOs; provide policy and communications training to Virginia's scientist; all the while strengthening connections between academia, government, and industry. In the last 1.5 years, we have designed COVES to build on the model of other science policy fellowships across the country, modifying them to best fit Virginia's needs and strengths. The inaugural 2020 cohort of the fellowship will be comprised of a diverse group of 6 fellows who will work full-time in host offices between June and August 2020. This is a pilot program that is being funded by five universities across Virginia and the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, we hope to expand the fellowship pool and activities going forward.
