Hick, John J. S. Merritt, Thomas Flies in A MinE, FLAME: exploring the biology of deep underground mining We have used the fly model system, a deep-underground laboratory (2km underground), and a treadmill to explore deep underground active metabolism. Our results are a step toward understanding the biological response to working deep underground and ultimately may help to improving workplace health in deep mines. Also, we got to run flies on a treadmill in a $500 million dollar particle physics lab, which was super cool.
